Do you agree?

Hi! everyone
Do you agree in the below sentence the place in the south of which the Mexican border is 200 miles far from, is not written? I mean 'farther south' of what?
The Mexican border is 200 miles farther south.
And is same the case with this sentence?
I read this one on wikianswers.com-: Which one is farther south the Alaska Peninsula or Seward Peninsula?
Now which place should an answerer consider that one of the two peninsulas is farther south from?
I mean the place where the questioner is or the place where the questioner wants to know the greater distant peninsula from , is not mentioned in the question. Do you agree with it?
Thanks!
