Do you accept China English?

Could you please tell me what's your understanding of "Our manager is his uncle, so he gets this position by using the back door." I am interested in knowing whether you understand it the same way as we Chinese do

Top answer

Perhaps it means that he uses his family connections to get his work position.

Interesting. Chinese idioms can be easily understood by foreigners while English idioms can not...

How about this one.."I am afraid that my boss would make me wear small shoes if I don't compliment him."

Not really. It's a retribution that a superior gives to a subservient (Is my explanation correct and clear?)

CharmYou"I am afraid that my boss would make me wear small shoes if I don't compliment him."
It probably refers back to the days of feet-binding.
I have seen those small shoes in a shoe museum.
They were extremely painful, but associated with privileged women. Powerful and strong men did not want to marry (or to have a concubine) a woman that did not
