Do we use 'Will set you back' with high prices only

I know what it means but I'm not sure when I can use it.

It would seem silly to say "It will set you back $3" but you can do it to be a little silly. "Yes, that will set you back a grand total of $3.18."

In other words, you're commenting on how small the amount of money is.
