Do we use "cause" mostly for negative meaning?

Hi everyone...

I wonder if we use cause for reasons of a negative situation or for if it's usable for positives as well. For example, is the blow sentence true?

Honesty is very important. This characteristic "cause" people to trust to each other.

Thanks
