Do we use by foot or on foot?

Which one is correct?
I went to school by foot or I went to school on foot

Top answer

I went to school by foot or I went to school on foot If I had to choose, I'd use "on foot", but the more idiomatic expression is simply, "I walked to school". CJ

The word 'by' is used probably when referring to vehicles, such as "I went to school by bus." We most probably should use 'on' in this case. So, "I went to school on foot" would be better.
