do we call ourself like "mr.lee"?

Well, English is not my first language. I was watching some English teaching videos, there were really a lot of dialogues like "Hello, I'm mr. lee ,nice to meet you..." . I seriously doubted it. Do native speakers really introduce themselves like that? sounds silly and pompous. I assume we should just say our names, like "I'm John lee..." . I don't suppose anybody can hear Obama says "Hello, I'm mr. Obama, nice to meet you...." . Am I right or not ? Thanks!
