Do versus make

Hi teachers,
Could you tell me which one is right please?
a) Do you do translations?
b) Do you make translations?

I'd say both are OK, but my preference would be for "do translations."
I don't think there is any rule, but I may be wrong.
In any event, "do" seems more natural to me and I've had to ask this very question hundreds of times in my career.
