Hi teachers,
Do these sentences have the same meaning? I mean, particularly these phrases "and bought some wine" and "for some wine".
a) I was at the supermarket and bought some wine.
b) I was at the supermarket for some wine.
c) I was at the supermarket for a bottle of wine.
Thanks.
for some wine says the purpose of going to the market was to buy some wine, if a suitable wine could be found, but that does not mean that anybody bought wine. There is nothing strange about saying I was at the supermarket for some wine, but they didn't have any wine today, so I came home empty-handed. But it makes no sense to say I was at the supermarket and bought some some wine, but they didn't have any wine today, so I came home empty-handed.
