Do Substitution

"There is currently a great debate about whether NHL players should be forced to wear visors like they are with helmets."

Does anyone think something is wrong with "they are with helmets"? This got me thinking about the following:

1 "Players are forced to wear visors as they are forced to wear helmets."
2 "Players are forced to wear visors as they are forced to do helmets."
3 "Players are forced to wear visors as they are forced to do with helmets."
4 "Players are forced to wear visors as they are with helmets."

where sentences 2,3 and 4 are possible ellipted versions of sentence 1. How correct are these? Does "do" substitute for "wear" or "wear visors"?

I don't think 'with' is an acceptable choice in either sentence.
