Do sports/play sports

What is the difference in meaning between these two sentences?

I have been playing sports all my life.
I like doing various sports in my free time.

Thanks in advance

layla

Either will work, Layla, but neither is very satisfactory. I suppose because we usually refer to the specific sport. A more comfortable phrase is 'participating in sports'.
