do something subconsciously

Could you tell me if "do something subconsciously" means what I have explained and if you could make these few sentences prettier.
Can someone's true nature be 'to be there for someone and care for someone'?

You see someone's true nature when you ask them to do something while they are asleep in the middle of the night and what they do or how they respond subconsciously is their true nature. For example, I had a nightmare the other night and I woke my husband up and asked him to caress my hair. He didn't blow me off. He did as I asked. The next morning he had forgotten I had done that. He subconsciously did as I asked and was there for me instead of blowing me off. His true nature is to be there for me and care for me.
