I sometimes get confused as to whether I should put "do" or "were" for the type of the sentence I gave below. Some are easy but when I encounter this type, it creates confusion. Do you have any tips? I know for this "were" is correct but sometimes, I tend to put "do". What should I do to remedy me deficiency in this area. I do read a lot but what is the proper way to go about to learn to get a strong grasp of this area of knowlege?
