Do or does

A local company called say Freds Bus company has a sign that says:

Freds does not accept cheques.

I feel it should read:

Freds do not accept cheques.

Please could someone advise which is correct, and why.

I suppose you mean that it is called Fred's Bus Company . Please clarify this point first.

"Freds" is an emporium or business.

So the business as a whole does not accept checks.

The other thing that is interesting is that Freds didn't punctuate their name correctly.

Should be "Fred's Bus Company". Unless there are several Freds, and then it would be "Freds's Bus Company".
