Do not need to Vs. Need not

1."Those of you who are uncertain about this mission do not need to participate"

2."Those of you who are uncertain about this mission need not participate"

Hi, which structure is more commonly used? And is the second one actually more formal?

Thank you

Hi Both are correct. If a leader is addressing his or her soldiers or agents then I'd expect it to be short and to the point, so '2' sounds better (and more formal) Dave
