Do not care too much about what they say. VS. Do not care too much what they say.

Which one do you think is correct and the speech part of too much in the sentence is a pronoun or an adverb?

I think that the first one is correct and the speech part is an adverb but I am confused that I heard "Do not care what they say.", which does not have about . Please help me out and have a good day.
