do more than just

Hi teachers,

One of my classmates says " Students must do more than (just) study well . They must helpt their parents earn money to support the whole family".
Is this sentence correct? If it is correct, then what does it mean?
I would be very grateful if you could help me understand it.

Students must study well, but they must not do only (=just) that. They must do more.
do more than just ... = perform other actions -- not only ...
To learn English you must do more than just listen. You must speak as well.
= To learn English you must perform other actions -- not only listen
