Do know or just know

Hello everybody.

What is the main difference between saying, for instance, "I do know" and "I know"? Do they mean exactly the same or are there some differences?

Thank you in advance.

We use 'I do know' when someone else has just told us that we don't know:

A: Who knows the answer?

B: I know.

A: No, you don't know, Mr B — you're stupid!

B: I do know!!
