Do I understand correctly?

If a metal bar is knocked out, does it mean that a certain part of the metal bar broke and its piece are removed from whole metal bar?
Do I understand correctly?

No. It sounds like the whole bar was inside something, and the whole bar is now forcibly removed from the something . eg If my tooth is knocked out by a punch, it is no longer in my mouth.
