Do I put commas between my adjectives?

This might seem like a silly question but I always get stuck with this one. If, for example, I'm using adjectives for a dog, would I write:
The angry, dirty, smelly dog ran away; or do I write:
The angry dirty smelly dog ran away. I'm not sure if there's some sort of rule or you just put a comma wherever seems appropriate.
Thanks in advance!
