Do I need to write "that"?

Hello. I'd like to know that I should put "that" in the next sentence.

In recent years, energy consumption per person
in Japan has been at almost the same level as [that] in European countries.

Thank you.

I would use "that" to refer to "same level".

Dea Kenta, it is correct to say "I'd like to know whether I should..." instead of "that I should" (speaking of "that"!). It does, of course, belong in your example sentence. All the best, Vera
