Do I need to add an "in" before "the same way"?

I want to express that people's appreance and clothes have not changed. Can I say "They wore the same way." or "They wore in the same way."

Why the change in tense? It's fine to say "wore" assuming she is talking about something noticed in the past. Changing to "are wearing" means it is happening right now. And considering how often people on television describe past events in the present tense, as in "...and then I question the suspect and he shoots me," I think it merits some attention.
