Do I need 'has' or not?

Dear experts,

If I wanted to say that 'he just left, but won't be long,' should I say "He has stepped out for a moment." or "He stepped out for a moment."?

Thank you.

Both are grammatically correct. The first is more usual, since the event was recent and is directly related to the present situation. The second is usually in this form: He just stepped out for a moment.
