Do I need a comma in this sentence?

A postponed ban would be recommended because it would not be as detrimental to the economy, as it would be in present day.

I bolded the comma, it is between economy and as.

Edit: Also do I need a comma in this sentence?

"The reason <x> is because <y>" is a terrible way to phrase a statement anyway. Just use "<x> because <y>".
