do I make sense?

Hi everybody!

Could you, please, check my vocabulary in the following sentences? Do I make sense? Or it sounds odd?

1) Second, realizing that those pounds are still there, a young mom goes into a tailspin. (I’m interested if I use "go into tailspin" right. What I was trying to convey was that young moms gain pregnancy pounds and when they see their excessive weigh is still there after the childbirth they become extremely nervous about it)
2) As for moms, they become increasingly soft in their psyche during the second trimester. (Here is the same weight problem. What I'm trying to say with “soft in their psyche” is that young moms' mental state becomes vulnerable, their soft spot)

Thanks in advance

'goes into a tailspin' sounds a bit too dramatic here - it's too strong a phrase for feeling a bit upset about a few extra pounds. No, you can't use soft in this way. 'Soft in their psyche' doesn't sound natural - use of psyche as much as the word soft.

  • 'Soft in their psyche' doesn't sound natural - use of psyche as much as the word soft.
  • It's also quite an insulting way to express this - when we use 'soft' relating to someone's mental condition we mean that they are stupid/retarded.
  • It doesn't express vulnarability or a 'soft spot'.
