Do I have to/do I do

A teacher has asked the students to write down the names of eight celebrities, and then walking to one group of the students and holding the mike to them, the teacher asks 'Who are they?' The students say, 'Do we list the names out?'

Here do you think it is common English to use 'do we do something' to mean 'do we need to/have to do something'? Is it strange or wrong English?
