Do I have the meaning of this word skewed?

I have a quesion about a particular word being used in a certain way that I am looking for some clarification on. Can 'limited' mean the same thing as 'shortened'? Example: lets say there is a period of time that I don't want in any way reduced from the orginal duration. If I then say that the duration cannot be limited, does it mean the same as if I were to say "it cannot become less than it is now"?
