esposo, escuela, estúpido, estado, are all near cognates with English. However, the Spanish pronunciation system doesn't allow for /sp/, /sk/ or /st/ combinations at the beginning of a word. It takes attentive practice, but one can overcome the tendency to add the vowel at the beginning of the English word.

You sometimes hear the following in the US:

I like shooting baskets. (That is, practicing your outside shooting, especially.)

I like going to the basket. (That is, doing rebounds, layups, tip ins, and dunks, rather than shooting from the outside.)
