Do English espeakers ever refer to basketball as just basket?

I like playing basket.

I often hear eg I like playing hoops.

( Because the metal circle of the basket is shaped as a hoop.)

This is one time when I can actually say "never" and mean it - I have never, ever heard basketball referred to as "basket."

esposo, escuela, estúpido, estado, are all near cognates with English. However, the Spanish pronunciation system doesn't allow for /sp/, /sk/ or /st/ combination

I like shooting baskets. (That is, practicing your outside shooting, especially.)

I like going to the basket. (That is, doing rebounds, layups, tip ins, and dunks, rather than shooting from the outside.)
