Do as if clause's Subject and main clause's subject have to be the same?

Hi everybody,

Can someone please tell me if the subject of the as if clause and the subject of the main clause have to be the same?

For example, does the following sentence make sense?:
_ He's looking at the cake as if a hungry lion look's looking at a piece of meat.

Or should I rephrase it as?:
_ He's looking at the cake as if he's a hungry lion looking at a piece of meat.
or just:
_ He's looking at the cake like a hungry lion looking at a piece of meat.

Thank you very much.

"? It's possible for the subjects to be different, as in "He's stuffing down the cake as if someone's about to ****** it away", but your first sentence (amended as above) doesn't seem right (the required logical connection between the two parts does not exist) The last sentence (with "like") would be the usual way to say it.

Did you mean the first sentence to read "He's looking at the cake as if a hungry lion's looking at a piece of meat."?
