Hi teachers,1.  Can you please tell me how to say this in English?25 / 5 = 52.  Is factor same as "divisor"3. 2. Is factor same as "divisor" Not quite the same:

To factor a number means to break it up into numbers that can be multiplied together to get the original number.

EXAMPLES:
 6 = 3 x 2 so, factors of 6 are 3 and 2 9 = 3 x 3 so, factors of 9 are 3 and 3 
3. How do you say in Englsih the mathematical symbols below:

It's a "plus" sign (+) yes

It's a "minus" sign (-) yes

It's a "divisor" sign (/) divide by sign

It's a "less than" sign (<) yes

It's a "equals" sign (=) yes

Not exactly.

In 24 / 8 = 3

24 is the dividend.

8 is the divisor.

3 is the quotient.

In 12.5 / 0.5 = 25

12.5 is the dividend.

0.5 is the divisor.

25 is the quotient.

But factors have to do with whole numbers. So 8 is a factor of 24, but 0.5 is not considered a factor of 12.5. Mathematicians don't talk about the factors of a decimal number like 12.5 or 4.635 or 516.713, though any of these can be used as the divisor in a division problem.

The factors of 24 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 24 because when 24 is divided by each of these, the quotients are always whole numbers.

That said, a common divisor is the same as a common factor.

Considering the numbers 10 and 15, both can be divided by 5 without a remainder, so 5 is a common divisor of 10 and 15. And you can also say that 5 is a common factor of 10 and 15 because the two expressions mean the same thing.

Thank you for your help. Your work is very much like my math teacher in high school. He was very neat and fluid. I have another question, please. I don't know how to say it in English or understand it in English.

I found the following 3 questions from the dictionary under "Divide"

1. divided 20 by 4

>> Does that mean the answer is 5?

2. 3 divides 9

>> Does this mean the answer is 3?

3. divided 5 into 35

>> This one is not divided by, it's into. But I think is 7.

I found the following 3 questions from the dictionary under "Divide"

1. divided 20 by 4>> Does that mean the answer is 5?

You need a sentence for this to sound right. I had 20 cupcakes and four teams, so I divided 20 by 4 and gave 5 to each team. The normal way to say this is "20 divided by 4."

2. 3 divides 9>> Does this mean the answer is 3?

I'm unable to come up with a way for this to sound normal. The number 3 has no volition and doesn't attempt to divide 9 or do anything else.

3. divided 5 into 35>> This one is not divided by, it's into. But I think is 7.

This one also needs a sentence. "How did you solve the problem?" "First I divided 5 into 35 and got 7. Then I..."
