diversity [second meaning]

In the dictionary of Longman there are two differen meaning of word diversity.

Diversity:a range of different people or things; variety (1)

Example: The cultural diversity of United states

Above is the first meaning of diversity. But the second meaning is confusing to me and there is no example of it.

Diversity: the quality of having variety and including a wide range of
different people or things (2)

What is the difference between these meaning of diversity.

Thank you.
