Diversion means Conversion

I assume by context that diversion has the same meaning as conversion (of the units of measure): " factor 1000 = diversion of g into mg", but neither of my dictionaries gives this meaning (English Russian of prof. Muller, ABBYY Lingvo computer dictionary and Marriam- Webster online dictionary). Is this very rare use of this word, or only diversion is right form for this exact phrase?

  • "factor 1000 =3D division of g into mg" would make more sense.
