Distraction of donning its legal boxing gloves, squaring up against

Despite the distraction of donning its legal boxing gloves and squaring up against gadget specialist Apple Inc. in a potentially messy patent dispute, Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia Corp. is still bolstering its market-leading portfolio with fresh handset arrivals.

Moreover, a selection of tantalising photographs posted to the Espoo-based company’s official Web site have revealed the upcoming release of another music-bundled package to further extend its ‘Comes with Music’ range of devices.

The photos accompanied a Nokia blog announcement detailing the phone, which hit the Net over the weekend only to mysteriously disappear. However, keen industry watchers that we are, we managed to jot down the 5235’s specs before the post was pulled from circulation.

Could you please explain to me the emboldened parts?
I know "distraction" means "to forget to consider something" and donning means "to put on a piece of cloth" but I cannot understand them together. Also, I have no idea what they mean by "boxing gloves", "square up against" as well.

Distraction here means extreme state of agitation of minds or emotions. Donning means putting on something (mainly clothes, but methaporically it can be used in many ways, you see). In your sentence it means getting ready for the trial.

  • I rephrase it this way, Gary: Despite the fuss which Nokia is creating by means of preparing itself for a long and obscure trial against Apple , it doesn't prevent itself from making profits.

Nokia Corporation is going about its usual business and providing customers with new products even though its attention to its usual business has been taken away by Apple Inc. ,which is going to take Nokia to court over a patent. (Nokia has been distracted by Apple.)

The distraction consists in the fact that Nokia must now prepare for the lawsuit with Apple.
