Distinguish

Hi People,

He was a man who couldn't distinguish power from money.

Can 'distinguish' be used in this manner, or should it be 'couldn't distinguish between power and money.'

Thanks.

They are both OK in usage. "Distinguish power from money" is better, I guess, but I don't know what it is supposed to mean.
