Distinct or distinctive?

In the below sentence, is the word 'distinctive' correct or should it be 'distinct'?

It is these qualities that make him a truly distinctive person.

Neither. "Distinct" is just a wrong word. "Distinctive" in this use is not recognized by the OED, or by me, for that matter. Say what you mean instead, using a word that means something—outstanding, exceptional, unique, attractive, etc.
