distance between players

Hi,

I've been racking my brains for a word synonymous with "far" to use in the following sentence:

"The batter may be more or less far from the pitcher depending on how large the field is."

I don't think the phrase "more or less far" reads well. Of course, I could be wrong - my brain has been rather "glitch-prone" for the last few months, so there's no way I can tell... So far, the only suitable synonym I've been able to come up with is "distant" ("remote" doesn't work at all here - at least, that's what I think.) I suppose I could change the sentence to "The distance between the batter and the pitcher may vary depending on how large the field is", but that wouldn't solve my problem. I still need to know whether the phrase "more or less far / distant from" is grammatically acceptable. I'm sure there's another, more idiomatic way to say it - I just can't seem to remember it...

Thanks in advance.

Don't try to figure this one out - it's poorly written to start with.

Thanks! You've just saved me a lot of trouble! Had I continued trying to figure it out, I think I would have ended up even more confused...

Hi Marvin

'farther' could also be used.
