OR it could mean that since the Court Reporter types a verbatim account of the legal proceedings, the lawyer can question the record by asking the court reporter who said what.

Reading from the whole text, your explanation makes more sense. As a matter of fact, I didn't think of the prejudice, which now appears to me affirmative. And the "disqualifying interest" wasn't found in any dictionary. The language used in court is hardly English.
