Disproven

Please tell me whether the word 'disproven' in the following sentence is correct in its usage.

Also tell me whether I should use 'assumptions' rather than 'the assumptions'.

"The main problem in the book stems from the assumptions - all of which were disproven by feminist literature."

Thanks

Disproven is OK, and so is assumptions / the assumptions -- but I would use its assumptions . And I think that by is the wrong preposition, since literature itself proves/disproves nothing. Use in (the) feminist literature .
