Vocabulary

disposal/disposition

can some help with the following sentence:

Sale, transfer, and other of handguns are strictly regulated in the city of Detriot.

which one, diposal/disposition, fit into the sentence better.

It appears that both of them derive from the verb dispose, but the noun forms are sort of confusing to me.

I would be grafeful for your kind clarification.

just my personal opinion: "disposal" means"the action or process of throwing away or getting rid of something: eg:the disposal of radioactive waste "dispostion" means "the action of distribute"/the way in which someting is placed or arranged so here,'dispostion' is better . if there is no "other" I think "disposal" is better

I suggest you say something like "Sales, transfer, and disposal of hand guns are strictly regulated in the city of Detroit."

Sales is usually used in the plural form.

You should drop "other" because selling and transfering are not an act of disposing of something. When you dispose of the handgun, you get rid of it so no one will own it any longer.

Uh...Hly2004 had it right. In legal terms disposition means exactly what he said-care or transfer. This is appropriate, because you would never toss a gun in the trash, you would take to a reputable disposal company who would take the proper steps of dismantle and recycle or not.
