displaced into

Does "displaced into" mean "brought into"?

Arguably, Alys is engaging, in both parts of Paradox of Praxis, with modernism’s myths via the dissolutive tactics of movement and performance. Part of that which helps the work towards realising the paradoxical claims of its title may be that it is simultaneously homage and critique. Thus, in Guards the form of modern art’s grid is adopted, representing the ‘end’ of this particular ‘making’ or ‘doing’, but in activated form. Where the grid’s will may be to silence, Alys’s version arises from ‘nothingness’ and, moreover, introduces a kind of temporary narrative into the city. Not only is the grid produced and presented on the streets, as opposed to the studio and gallery, but it also ultimately undoes itself again (though it may have the potential to re-form). As such claims to a discrete space of art and ‘finality of objecthood’ are displaced into a performance that is both elusive and ephemeral as well as contingent upon the context of the city

I do not know how you can read this mind-numbing garbage (it is like spoiled molasses). However, I can tell you how "displaced" is normally used. Displaced means taken from its original or intended location (and moved to another).

  • So "brought into" only covers the movement.
  • It does not include the idea that the movement is from a suitable setting to a new setting (which may be false).
