Dismay

Hi.
What's the difference between 'dismay' and 'shock' in:

She was very dismayed to learn/discover that he was so ill.

I was dismayed by/at his indifference.


or in

His comments were met with cries of dismay.

They watched in dismay as the house burned.

Much to the dismay of her fans, she announced her retirement immediately after the book's release.

Why?

It seems to me that the writer could well be describing a strong feeling that is a combination of being worried, disappointed, and upset - in short, a feeling of dismay. I don't know whether you have a single word for this in Farsi/Persian.
