Disease/illness

Hello,

I've seen 'burden of disease/illness' on the net. Since both of them are count nouns, is it necessary that we add the, as in burden of the disease? I feel it is weird adding it.

thanks

Hi Anon; It is not referring to a particular disease, like the measles. It is referring to sickness in general. In that situation, an article (a, the) is not used.
