Disease is uncountable?

Hello all!

- One of the most serious issues would be not having enough potable water, which might lead to the spread of diseases.

Here I was corrected that it should be DISEASE and NOT DISEASES. Why is it so? Even dictionaries show it is a countable word!

"disease" can be countable or uncountable. "spread of diseases" is not incorrect, but we more commonly refer to the "spread of disease". I'm not sure this is fully predictable.
