Disease and illness

Should I use “disease” as a countable noun or an uncountable noun?

Many patients feel more comfortable at home than in hospital. So receiving home care helps cure their disease(s).

nicetomeetyou Many patients feel more comfortable at home than in hospital. So receiving home care helps cure their disease(s). "diseases" would be correct grammatically, but as a whole it reads a bit oddly.

  • As well as "cure their disease(s)" being faintly odd in the context, another problem is that the second sentence contains no contrast to reflect the first.
  • Something like this would read better: Many patients feel more comfortable at home than in hospital, so they may get better more quickly when they receive home care rather than hospital treatment.
