discount usually refers to a percentage, eg 10% off rebate eg You pay $100, and later $10 is returned to you, eg by the manufacturer, by mail reduction eg the original price was $100, but I only paid $90.
In terms of syntax, we commonly say 'I got a discount/ rebate' or 'I got/bought it on sale'.
