Complaint - Hypertension
History - History of hypertension for the past 10 years.

The patient was discharged from the hospital. He was prescribed atenolol 30mg (put brand name, but not generic name). His hypertension was normal at the time of discharge.

Medications

1.atenolol 30mg ( use brand name ). Also, mention the dosage + time
Example: atenolol 30mg once daily after breakfast/meals/at bed time.

2.Alprax .50 mg once daily at bed time. ( brand name's first letter in capital letters )

3.Becosules once daily after meals.
4.Take plenty of vegetables.

*Review: You need to specify when the patient has to come to the hospital for review.

Hi Student,
Any drug have three names;

1.Generic name - It means bio-equivalent to the brand name originals.

2.Chemical name - It is the atomic or molecular structure of the drug.
3.Brand name - This name is selected by the drug manufacturer.
We can see generic name on the strip of the drug. We can also see the brand name just below the generic name on the strip.

For example:
Alprax .50 mg - It is the brand nam.

alprazolam .50 mg - It is the generic name.
8-chloro-1-methyl-6-phenyl-4H-s-trizolo(4,3-1) (1-4) benzodiazepine - It is the chemical
name.

Q) Now, you tell me which one is easy to remember? generic/chemical/brand name?
A) It is easy to remember brand name. So, in most of the prescriptions you can see only brand names. Ok?

As far as HTN is concerned, you have to elaborate the abbreviation in medical documents. Otherwise, it would be very difficult for the patient to understand it. You need to minimize the usage of medical abbreviations. It is for the convenience of the patient.
