Director / Directions RP pronunciation

Hi guys, I am having trouble understanding the phonetic transcription of these 2 words.

I am looking for the British RP pronunciation of the word "director" or "directions" and the transcript in every dictionary is the same:

Director /d?'rekt??/

The /?/ in that word sounds totally like /a?/ as in /da?'rekt??/ but it is transcribed as /?/

The vowel "i" in the word TIN /t ? n/ has a completely different sound than the "i" in director, but the phonetic trascription is still the same.

Could anyone explain why or why do I keep hearing a different sound when an British speaker says director/directons as oposed to the sound of the american director/directions, which would be closer to the /?/ transcription!

Thank you!!

The British pronunciation of the "i" in the word "director" is often the same as the "i" in the word "dive".

British pronunciation varies so, some people pronounce the "i" the same as the "i" in the word "tin".
