Direct/indirect speech

I was going through some blog where it is mentioned. "He suggested that media changed significantly."

I am confused whether we should use that media has changed significantly will be more appropriate. Please guide

We almost always say the media. Use Simple Past if you are speaking only of an event in the past. Use Present Perfect if you are speaking of an event in the past that has some relevance to the present situation.
