Direct/Indirect

Cosider that the speaker is mentioning the conversation happened on 23rd and about the day 28th of the same month .He is describing the dialogue on 25th.
He said, 'I will go to the party on 28th'.
He said that he will/would go to the party on 28th.
what would be more correct between will and would?

But I read it at a site-

But I dont have a habit of backshifting verb and even if I do it it hinder my fluency .So I suppose it would be better for me to prevent backshifting while speaking.

Then you must learn to become adept at it. Otherwise you risk saying a lot of silly things where backshifting is the most idiomatic way of expressing the thought you wish to express.
