Directed

Hi, I see two meanings for "Directed him"- Led him, guided him,

What fits more in this context ?

"A contrasting set of associations begins with the extravagant stories of the founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith. Smith
claimed that an angel directed him to gold plates, which he translated as the Book of Mormon."

Hi Clive, From your question I see there is no difference maybe it's ok to think about it as if He guided them to go after him to Utha ... just wasn't use to see this word in this context
