Direct Speech into Indirect Speech( Command and Request Form)

Q: The manager said to his secretary, "Please arrange the meeting for Thursday."

Ans.1. The manager asked his secretary to arrange the meeting for Thursday.

Ans.2. The manager requested his secretary to arrange the meeting for Thursday.

I'd like to know which one is more natural, 1 or 2.

Thanks a lot.
